Description

False bay, (Simons Bay), South Africa . A stormy day, the sun came out after a week of horrendous weather. The waves were still high, enhancing lighthouse and the opposite en of the bay still hazy.

Isolated indeed and the conditions show why the light is there and so valuable. Also makes me muse about the difficulties encountered when building it. Of course modern navigational aids have pretty much rendered lighthouses obsolete but there are still some active in the US. Is this one still working? >=))>

Yes it is. It is called to Romans Rock Lighthouse and nowadays it is automated. The access is by helicopter and the structure on the left is the helipad. It is the only lighthouse in SA that is built on a single rock.
