Looking Up

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I caught my buddy Woody in the backyard. I was busy focusing on him but I think he was concerned about a nearby steller’s jay in the tree. This guy’s usually on the side of a trunk, or branch. I like that I was able to get him in this more traditional bird pose.

Specific Feedback

I kicked around whether or not to make that large dark branch pointing south go away. Should I have?

Hi Dave, nice pose you captured with the upward look of the woody. Makes us wonder what he is viewing. Subject placement in the frame looks good to me. I could see removing the thin out of focus branch cutting through the left of the frame.

That is a nice pose, Dave, and detail in the bird is excellent. I agree with Allen about that twig.
