Love in the wetland

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Late to the challenge - but one thing I like about the “weekly challenge” is the invitation to check the archive for a specific theme, look at old images with a different twist, or go to the field and create new pictures devoted to the suggested topic. Here, an image from almost two years ago, from a small wetland in Racconigi (Piedmont, Italy). In summer, hundreds of dragonflies populate this wetland, and become a splendid subject besides birds. Two dragonflies (Anax parthenope, I believe) are laying the eggs in the water, but… this is not the only insect subject in the picture. Hope you like this little scene of from a small ecosystem.

Wow, what a great shot that really gets your attention. The reflection of the two dragonflies and the stump is spot on, adding a sense of symmetry to the image. And yes, I did notice the little bugs on the lower part of that stump. Hard to find anything to add to this image other than lightening the bright part in the lower right corner and maybe a slight vignette overall. Very nice work.

Great symmetry of the dfs and perch - taken at such an important moment in nature too! The nymphs on the tree trunk look a bit like pond-skaters (Derris), but I don’t know if they ever leave the water. A fascinating look at dragonfly behavior. Super as is.

Thanks Ted and Mike for the comments! Ted, good point, a slight vignette could help focusing the attention on the subjects!

Antonello: What a terrific find and so superbly composed and presented. Most excellent. >=))>

Thanks Bill! Happy you liked it!
