Description

This Eastern Pondhawk teased me for the better part of an hour. She would fly over to our Bird of Paradise leaves but never stay and kept coming back to this manhole cover. At least she accommodated me by landing on this spent magnolia leaf instead of the cover itself. She was very tolerant of me so I was able to set up the tripod and just wait for her to return. I find most dragonflies will return regularly to a particular perch and find it much more productive to set up and wait instead of chasing them all over the garden. I liked the subtle shadow from the lightly filtered sunlight. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Too mundane/uninteresting perch?

Amazing Image Bill. I like the leaf in this Image. Very Natural. I am blown away how close you are getting to your subject. You have this style of photography down to a science. !!!

The magnolia adds just enough nature to the comp that reduces the features of the manhole cover. Sharpness looks good and the comp is very pleasing to the eye…Jim

Bill, these pondhawks are notorious for perching on or very near the ground. You did well taking advantage of it’s perch on the leaf to disguise the rest of the perch… She’s nice and sharp. The glisten in her wings is a bonus.
