The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Wanted to get out of the house and explore winter. I need to get my camera cleaned. It’s a 22 year old Nikon D300s. Dropping hints to my wife for a b-day present, a Nikon Z6III. It’s been a long time since I wandered with my camera, and I’m going to change that this year.
Specific Feedback
Any and all feedback is welcome.

Hi Christopher,
Good to see you posting again. This needs to be viewed large to really appreciate all the wonderful details in the ice. The diagonal in the ice also works beautifully taking the viewer into the scene. It looks cold, but I find that the rust colored reeds make the image inviting. My only suggestion would be a crop of about 1/2 of the sky as it is fairly featureless and it would move the horizon line off center a bit. I hope you do not mind, but here is a rework with what I was thinking. Just my opinion of course. Good luck with the b-day camera!I hope to see more of your images as well as your commenting on other photographer’s images. Beautifully done.
Hi, @christopher10. This image certainly evokes a cold winter’s day. There’s some interesting texture and neat patterns in the ice and I like the hints of color in the grass, as the rest of the scene is so monochromatic. I think a 4x5 crop from the top to eliminate most of the sky while keeping all of the FG would work well. I’d also be interested to see a high contrast black and white of this one.
Hi, @Bret_Edge. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll work on your suggestion to crop the sky. Also, I did create a b&w image. I struggle with converting images to b&w. I’m so tied to the old film days, that I either put a roll of b&w or Velvia 50 Slide into my Pentax 67. I need to finally get with the times 25 years later.
HI, @Ed_Lowe. Also, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I’m going to push my self outdoors and get shooting again. I also shot this in landscape, so that would remove some the sky. I’ll share that one also. I don’t mind the re-works, suggestions, or critiques. Thanks!
