Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We took the tram up Whistler Mountain, named for these guys. We were treated to the main MMA event. It was actually pretty lopsided and the bigger marmot just kept chewing and pounding on the little guy for a long time. There never seemed to be much damage done and the little guy was really game for quite a while. He eventually broke and ran after about ten falls, and tried hiding under the steps to a building. The other marmot just followed and pushed him out from under and kept chewing. They even took the fight up to the top step of the stairs. They were still going at it when we decided to take some photos of a new life-lister bird, the gray-crowned rosy finch.

Specific Feedback

I’d like some feedback on the series as much as the individual images. Does this portray a serious struggle for these combatants. It looked pretty serious for the smaller one.

Really nice series! Hopefully, this was a minor territory/alpha male dispute only.
All shots are well-done, but I like #2 best, with both profiles and eyes visible. The bright snow is a little distracting, it might be an improvement to tone it down a bit.

Thank you very much @SandyR-B. I’m not sure if I went far enough on the reposts toning down the snow. I’m always afraid of leaving artifacts. . .

Marmots are always up to something and you captured them doing exactly that! I can live with the snow as it adds to the mountain-atmosphere to the comp. I agree with Sandy about #2 being a fave, but the last one has a nice take down with wrestling to make it a very close second…Jim

I really appreciate your comments @Jim_Zablotny. They are little characters. . .

Nice EP! Marmots are such fun to watch -

These are all nice shots, but I like #2 the best as it shows their eyes and profiles and gets across your point of the wrestling/fight. #1 is a second choice.

Thank you @robertakayne
