Moor

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

After a series of grey days, I was happy to go out with the risk of some heavy showers but also clearings that might offer the opportunity of interesting light.
Here I had to wait a short time until the sun came in from behind the clouds, at an angle behind the vegetation.
This is a wet area, the trees have few autumn colors yet (or they lost their leaves), but the common moor-grasses are turning brown already.

Specific Feedback

All comments are welcome, but I am mostly interested if this image carries the mood of the place.

Technical Details

Pentax K3 Mk. III, Sigma 2.8/17-70 @ a53mm, f/11, 1/1250s, ISO800, tripod.
The contrast in the sky and the contrast of the trees against the sky was very high. I tried several exposures, but I wasn’t happy with blended images. There was a lot of wind (therefore the fast shutter speed) and that caused more blur in the composites than I like.
Finally I edited a single image and blended in a part of the sky from a darker image, to avoid too many blown out parts.

This was my initial impression, and it sounds challenging to tame! While I enjoy the beauty of the clouds floating by, what really enchants my eye is the details in the vegetation below. There is a lot of beauty and interest there, and a couple of those trees have real character.

I don’t know if the weather would allow you to catch really early or late light here, but if so this section is especially interesting to me:

I think that the blend works Hans, but maybe it is still quite a difficult image to control.
John offers an interesting crop that may be worth pursuing

Thank you @Ryan_H and @John_Williams for your comments.
I like the crop. In the case presented I prefer to include the first tree, but with early light on the trees the crop is the best section. I’ll give it a try with a longer lens, but the weather forecast for the coming days isn’t promising, to say the least. And the scene will change rapidly in this season.
