Morning Flight - Re-crops Added

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I took this image very early one day at the Bolsa Chica Preserve. The lighting was not good enough to get a lot of detail in the birds, but I really liked the combination of the birds and the bare dead trees along the shoreline with the bluffs in the BG.

Specific Feedback

I wasn’t sure if I left too much of the lower water, or burned it down enough to help balance the tones in the rest of the image. I really like the tree that is leaning into the frame from the left side, but I’m not sure if I should have cropped out the rock in the LLC or the green bush along the left side somehow.

Technical Details

Canon 60D, f11, 1/80 sec, iso 640, 100-400 lens at 400 mm.

Cool picture. I like the color caste of this image. The best part is in the left half. I wonder if a crop to something like a square would provide greater balance.

Thank you @Igor_Doncov, I agree with you that the square crop really works well. I re-cropped to get rid of the bush and the rock and I don’t feel it really has the same impact.

Nice image. The colors are very pleasing. I like scenes like this that are more intimate and subtle and not smashmouth over saturated grand landscapes. The square crop works best. I don’t know how you feel about removing things, but I would just remove the rock instead of trying to crop it out. The last crop I feel makes that light tree in the ULC a little distracting.

Thank you @Michael_Lowe. I appreciate your input on this, and your recommendations.

Very interesting affect the birds in motion have.

I like that final version the best Ed.

Thank you @John_Williams. I appreciate you looking and your kind comments.
