Nice job on the depth of field, Ed. It’s pretty difficult to get a whole flower in focus with a single shot. I like the dark background. I kind of wish the bud wasn’t growing out of the top of the flower, but I don’t find it a major issue. The only real problem I have with this image, is that the color of the flower doesn’t appeal to me at all-and that’s purely a matter of personal taste.

Thanks @Dennis_Plank.

Ed, really fine detail here , great colour, (love purple) and nice BG. I like the faint hint of leaves in the BG, but I think I’d make them fainter so they could barly be seen. More interesting than a totally black BG (which you could get using the levels slider).
I think I’d lose the bud , also, as it pulls my eye a bit.
Lovely!

Yeah that bud really photobombed you. I’d have moved it or cloned it, but the real issue for me is the muddy background. I know minimizing it is part of what will make this photo work, but I think this is pulled back a bit to far. When this happens to me I add just a touch of highlights to the background and it usually works. I like the flower itself and the slight pink lines radiating outward. Some haloing around the bud, but the blossom looks ok to me.

Sorry for being so late to acknowledge and thank you for your thoughts on this @SandyR-B and @Kris_Smith.
