Mrs and Mr Eurasian Wigeon

This couple of Anas penelope were rummaging near the sea wall. I like to attempt shots which show more than one bird, especially a male and female together. As it was a freezing day, they let me get to within 50 feet.

This was my closest attempt at getting both birds in focus, before my hands started to freeze up. I applied selective sharpening to both birds. The male in particular had colours blending with its surroundings which can be a pain when selecting! Wigeon tend to have indented eyes, so I brightened these areas a bit with Viveza. Very nice look at the pair. Good detail and I like the foreground rocks.

Nice job getting the two of them together and good choice on the format. They look quite busy feeding so not too bothered by you. A lower angle would have been nice if possible. Sounds cold.

This is excellent, Mike. You did a great job getting both birds in good focus, which isn’t at all easy to accomplish. I also like the lighting in the image. Well done.
