Munching Under the Moon

I was driving from Valdez to Anchorage on a cold Winter evening (-20°F) and saw this moose pawing the snow to uncover grasses that it was eating. There was also a rising moon and a sunset so I couldn’t resist stopping to get a photo. The light was poor but the moose wasn’t moving very fast so I decided on a lower ISO & a slower shutter speed to get more quality in the landscape & moon.

I miss moose. Wisconsin only has about 30 of them and although I didn’t see them often in NH, I still did. There’s nothing else like them. I really like the light and that you could slow the shutter enough to let it glow a little bit. Moose aren’t that fast when they eat anyway, lol. The snow itself looks good, too, reflecting that sky with its pastel colors. The moon is the cherry on top.

It’s a great scene with nicely crisp moose and surroundings topped off by a beautifully inviting sky and moon.
