Natures Brushstrokes, Rialto Beach, Washington 2025

Image(s)

Image Description

On a winter morning, I found myself at Rialto Beach in the Olympic National Park, with the entire beach almost to myself. As I wandered along the coast, capturing various scenes, I stumbled upon this rock formation. It appears the wave action sculpted grooves into the stone. The variations of colors and the early morning light caught my eye. As primarily a black and white photographer, I processed the image in my preferred style.

Pertinent Technical Details

I used my Nikon Z7 camera with a Nikkor Z 24-200 lens. The image was captured handheld, in between waves, at ISO 400, aperture ƒ16, shutter speed 1/160th sec, and focal length 73mm. I then performed a basic edit in Lightroom and Photoshop to enhance the image.

This looks like an amazing rock structure, Steve. While I suspect that the very high contrast shown here is your preferred style, I think this would be much more interesting if the details in the rocks were more readily visible.

Thank you. High contrast edits aren’t my usual B&W process; however, with this project, the scene was very high contrast, so I decided to experiment and do something out of the ordinary for me. Project: https://www.stevebisigphotography.com/rialto-beach-echoes-of-light-and-tide
