Nature's Random Design

Image(s)

Image Description

I couldn’t help but notice the intricate patterns on the surface of some rocks situated on a beach along the California coast. It’s truly amazing how natural forces, in this case water and wind over time, create random artistic masterpieces from mundane objects.

Ted: This is reminiscent of the wonderful work of old NPN member Anil Rao. Please take that as the high compliment intended. The textures and colors work together wonderfully. A great find and a fine composition and capture. >=))>

Ted, these formations a known as Tafoni.

This is a wonderful image and does remind me of Anil’s work. Your image is quite striking, and I love the various textures and the subtle color. Your composition is spot-on. Not nits tick here,

Hi Ted,

I love the color combination

Ted, this is an excellent look at this Tafoni. The variations in texture and color make a fascinating abstract. As you say, it is the amazing result showing the effects wind and water on the sandstone. It also speaks to how there are local variations in hardness in the sandstone.

Thank you @Bill_Fach and @Preston_Birdwell for your feedback. I was not aware of Anil Rao’s work, but I looked him up on the network and checked out his website. Impressive work. I find this kind of abstract photography in nature very pleasing.

Thank you @Mark_Seaver and @debbie for your kind comments.

This is gorgeous!! The soft light is just right to bring out colors, shapes and textures and you have framed a fascinating scene. Good work!!

Thanks so much @Sandy_Richards-Brown.

Thank you so much for your kind comments @Diane_Miller.

This does indeed look like some of Anil Rao’s central california work in subject matter. For my taste I thought it was just a tad underexposed. And then when I played with it I thought a warmer rendition was preferable. These changes are just a matter of preference really. They affect the type of emotional response you hope to get from the viewer. I actually like the emotion you’re driving at. This is just an alternative.
