I recently inherited an older Nikon F3 film camera that came with some manual lenses. I want to try them out on my Z7ii body, but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on an FTZ adapter. I found some completely-manual adapters on Amazon that were less than $50. Anybody have any thought on whether they are worth getting. [I just want to play with the lenses. I’m not interested in creating museum/contest grade images.]
I don’t know what you found on Amazon, but if it’s strictly mechanical, it should work. For reference, the Viltrox adapter for Nikon F to Nikon Z with AF is $139 on B&H and gets precisely the same ratings as the Nikon converter.
Go with the newest version of the FTZ adapter. I saw a refurbed one from Nikon that was going for 199. Some of the legacy Nikon glass are outstanding in terms of image quality and are worthy of moderate use on a Z-system Nikon. Having functional electronic connections are very handy for metering and setting exposure in some cases. Auto focus will not be functional with some of these older lenses. I have a Nikon 200mm f4 Micro that does not provide autofocus when used with the Z9, but those images are wonderful when correctly focused manually. I would say that the adapter Dennis suggested should work for you if you need to save money…Jim
