Nursery tree

It is common to find stumps that, as they rot, become nurseries for seedlings. As the seedlings grow and the stump decomposes, the tree can be left elevated on the roots. This can lead to some interesting looking trees with “legs!”

Thanks for sharing such interesting background on nurseries for seedlings. This photo really exemplifies that. The portrait-orientation crop you used is very effective to enhance the elevation those “legs” create. If I were to nitpick on this nice image, I would only suggest trying to decrease the highlights in the surrounding ground so that there is more color separation between the tree roots and the ground.
