I like the diagonal edge on this image, Elizabeth, and the moss is very cool. It’s tough to get much depth of field with a 600 mm lens unless you’re a very long way from the subject, so the shallow depth of field is to be expected. If you have the pixels available, I’d consider cropping this much tighter all around and concentrate on that one beautiful spherical clump of moss. You’d lose the string of in focus moss going to the right, but I think it would be worth it.
Elizabeth: A really nice find and I like the shallow DOF. I can see @Dennis_Plank’s suggestion about a tighter crop and think that would work as well. On a side note, you might consider posting larger images. Site recommendations encourage images at 2000 pixels on the long side. For shots with lots of fine detail like this the larger images allow more scrutiny and appreciation. >=))>
