On the Rocks

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I am visiting friends in the north of New Zealand. I have always loved detail and texture. I am finding subjects that I have never noticed before on the rocks at the end of the local beaches. Particularly changes of colour and line. Also lichen.

Specific Feedback

I would like a general critique on this photo. Any ways to make the image stronger. Your response to it etc. All comments welcome. I have got so much from previous critiques of my work.

Cool rock! It has interesting textures and tonality. I like it against the dark background (volcanic?) .

Might I suggest cropping from the top in order to eliminate the grey area and the bit of wood below and right of it? This does a couple of things: It moves the subject rock off-center and eliminates the two distractions I mentioned. You might also consider burning down the bit of rock in lower left corner (LLC) as it catches my eye.

This looks like a great place to explore and burn a bunch of pixels!
