The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
After making all the conventional compositions I went back to this one and finally responded to my intuition. This is not the sort of image to win awards or competitions. Perhaps that’s part of it’s appeal to me. I don’t know. There are no menacing waves or mesmerizing color and tones. Just rocks.
And the composition is loose. I’m starting to think that clever compositions are boring in a way.
Specific Feedback
I’m almost afraid to ask.

I bet different viewers will see different things in this image. The rocks form a question mark to my eye. I like how the dark rocks at the bottom left and the crack in the bottom right form a V into which the rocks above fit nicely. Soft light is perfect for this scene. My only thought might be too slightly burn the URH corner as it’s a tad bright and may pull a viewers eye away from the scene. As usual, lovely work.
Igor, I too see the big question mark in the rocks. Should you want to emphasize that aspect you might crop out the vegetation at the top. I’m intrigued by and enjoying the subtle color variations in the underlying whitish rocks.
In the smaller thumbnail I can really see the questions mark and it’s why I thought you may have taken this image. It questions everything. The composition, the colors and hue of the scene. I’m not exactly sure why you state that the composition is loose but it’s not something most people would frame up. In that sense, I think the whole scene is rather clever. The bottom of the frame has to have those dark rocks in the lower right corner to pull this whole scene off. Without those rocks, the whole scene becomes unbalanced. I also thought about cropping out the top of the image to exclude the brush back there but when I did, the composition fell apart. The two lines creating a V in the bottom of the image are mirrored in the upper portion of the scene. Intentional? Question Mark? The tint/hue of the scene has purple/magenta cast that I find rather beautiful and artistic. I like this image for it’s quirkiness.
Yes it does. I tried it as well. It’s natural to thing it should be cropped because it seems like an intrusion but the rocks with space all around them is boring in my opinion. Yeah it’s un unconvential composition because it doesn’t have a carefully laid out design. In fact I passed up on it several times because of that.
PS. I never saw the question mark in this image until the comments above.
Hi Igor,
My first thought when viewing this image was a crop from the top, but the more I looked at it that little V notch of brush I came to the conclusion that it compliments the brush in the LLC perfectly. I too see the question mark with the scattered rocks. I love the soft subdued light along with the soft blue pastels of this desert landscape. Very nicely done.
