The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I can’t seem to get rocks out of my mind. This group were in the same area near Page, Arizona, before the cold weather scared me off.
Specific Feedback
I’m just wondering if the large diagonal rock near the bottom is too bright? I’m in a quandry about that. It draws attention to itself, but is that a bad thing?
Technical Details

Your fascination with rocks is music to my eyes, Igor. I never tire of them. As for the large diagonal rock, IMHO, it acts as a leading line bring me into lower right portion of the frame which then leads me back around. Having said that, I realize that would be a counter clockwise viewing situation which may be unsettling for some. Your ability to capturing the soft colors, details & textures in the rocks is enviable. Thanks for sharing these “rock” images with us. Keep them coming!
Igor, your ability to visualize exceptional images from common things is a true inspiration. Once again, you have found a fascinating perspective on a group of rocks.
To me, the lighter central rock end is a focus, and then the diagonal line of rock leads to the lower rock which is secondary. For that reason, I might darken the lower rock just a bit .
Another entrancing image from the Master!
Igor, the details in these sculpted rocks are excellent. I think the smaller rock in the lower left provides important balance to all of the sculpture in the upper right half of the frame…maybe burn it down slightly… The blue tones leading out in the upper left corner are a neat extra.
That diagonal rock doesn’t look too bright to me, at least on this monitor. Otherwise, I really like this image. It has a quiet and subtle elegance to it that I find very soothing.
Lovely, Igor. There is a very subtle warm/cool contrast going on here that isn’t immediately obvious, and I like it. The patterns and textures, and your arrangement of the various elements, all work to create a stunning image.
I do not think the bright rock in the LRC is too bright nor do I think it grabs too much attention. I am really impressed with how you managed to show all the rough texture of the rocks in this small of a photo. All the lines in the photo keep my eye moving from one area to the next and each area has a different texture to explore. Very neat.
Beautiful again. As always in you image all has been already said but anyway I want to tell you how much I like the muted and neutral colors in the whole image and the composition where you have created playing with the rocks a diagonal trend from botton right to the left corner that make a nice movement even in an image of rocks only.
I really appreciate how different than me you are able to see these images Igor. Besides the flow of lines here, I also appreciate the subtle color variation you have; that kiss blue is an essential part for me.
Although the lower right is an important balance in the composition, I personally enjoy the layered rock above the most. As such, I think of the lower right as a supporting cast. I can’t “see” as well as I would like visualizing in my head, so I took a run at dropping the luminosity in the brighter areas of that lower right. I think I (slightly) prefer it, but I don’t think it’s critical either way.
Thank you, John. I think you’re right, although not everyone agrees. Thank you for showing and describing your corrections. I also suspect that what makes the lower brights look that bright is that they are next to the darkest darks in the image (which makes them jump out).
