Ookow

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

A plant native to the west coast. The bulb is edible. I probably took the photo as much for the nice green background as the plant.

Specific Feedback

Any advice appreciated.

Technical Details

Canon R5; 100-500 at 500 mm; 1/1000 at f7.1; ISO 800

What a cool little cluster. They look a little lonely up there without leaves or anything. Reminds me of an orchid the way this presents, although they don’t seem to be in that family. The contrasting colors works to harmonize the shot, although I would like a more mottled background for this one since the subject is so stark by comparison. Lots of detail where it needs to be and the light is killer.

I love these little plants! And I love your color in this. Didn’t know they were called ookow.

Maybe lightening the background a bit would be nice. Here’s my thought (made a color mask in ACR and brought up the exposure); doing this did bring out just a touch of variation in the background:

Thanks, Bonnie. I like the lighter version you presented.

I really like the minimalist way this image is presented. The purple really pops off the green background.
Beautiful job.

Allen: Really nicely isolated with your long lens against such a complementary BG. Simple but engaging and delightful. >=))>
