The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I made this image about 10 minutes after the one I uploaded in the beginning of February titled “Awake in Stillness”. A snowstorm was on its way in and the rising sun managed to light it all up. I only managed to take a few frames of this before the light fizzled out and the sky turned gray and the snow started to fall. I had originally overlooked this image in favour of the more “epic” mountain scene photos but when I came across this image in the Lightroom catalog yesterday I thought it was definitely worth processing.

Technical Details
Equipment: Canon 5DIV with a 45mm tilt shift lens.
Exposure: 1/4 second at f/11, ISO 100. Tripod.
Definitely worth processing Tom! Very nice color of course, but I also like the fine detail of the grasses in the foreground that contrast with the denser evergreens in the distance. The layering of the various vegetation types as you move away from the lake is also nice. I think you nailed it, composition and exposure-wise. Great work!
Hi Tom,
This is definitely worth processing and yes it holds my interest! The warm color in the sky is quite lovely and you certainly made the most of the short window you had before the snow began to fall. I like the layering you created beginning with the FG grasses and ending with that gorgeous sky. I also love those leafless deciduous trees in front of the evergreens. No suggestions from me as this is beautifully done.
I like everything about this. Great color, reflection, and stillness of the water. Just enough detail in the sky with those dark thin clouds to keep it interesting. Great job.
Tom, this looks great, definitely a keeper. My first reaction was, “Was this taken during the fires?”, since colors like this are regularly associated with fire in the distance. It’s an interesting mix of peaceful and dramatic.
A beautiful image, Tom. I’m always a sucker for colorful skies reflected in water and this is a beauty. We don’t see many shots like this from winter which adds a lot to the image in my opinion since the snow picked up so much color as well.
This is wonderful Tom. I loved “Awake in Stillness,” but this one may be even better; it certainly holds its own at a minimum.
You caught wonderful light, and your composition has a perfect combination of diagonals and layering. Your processing is spot on, and when I open it up to the full-size version the detail in the shadows is seductive.
I love this one even more than “Awake…” It has that elusive magical quality of light, and the compositions is strong. I love the treatment – no suggestions except print and hang! (In a gallery!)
HI Tom,
Definitely worth shooting and processing. It’s funny how we sometimes chase the grand mountain landscape only to turn around and see something like this. Like Mark, my first thought here was that this was a smoky environment. As a result, I don’t get a sense of peace from it so much as a sense of things ending, impending drama, even the last view of this scene.
If you want to lighten the mood, some additional processing might be helpful, but I’m not sure what that would mean. Maybe some cooling tones?
Great as is, regardless of our varying interpretations.
