Hello. I am struggling with cropping another of my fave images from this year.
I have included the two extremes. Any feedback is very welcome.
I am using Canon R5 and RF 100 to 500. 1/1000 f8 ISO 800

I would crop about half way between the two. Anything you can do to tame the highlights in the background would work to your advantage.

Thanks. I will work on this and then maybe re-post. I appreciate everyone’s honest critiques. It’s a great way to learn.

Great image. One idea could be to crop to include as much of the poles as possible but without including any of the lake, i. e. just a little bit wider than the second image. Then the osprey will clearly be the main subject but still have some space.

Thank you!

I would recommend cropping to the beginning of the left pylon and keeping the metal chain intact with the water on the right side, They help define the location.

Thanks I will try that too. Now I am having more trouble with the brightness. I appreciate everyone’s input.

Hello Robena. A great moment of flight . Images like this are tough because when you have strong lines in the background, especially repeating lines, they will often dominate no matter what you do. Cropping off left side but leaving the other as someone suggested gives a sense of place yet cleans up the composition a bit. You could alternatively use photoshop to blur the background more but if you are trying to remain natural with your photo then that is not an option.

I appreciate your thoughts. Will have to play some more with this. A chance to work on some Lightroom skills. Or just keep this for myself as a crew saver and cherish the thrill of watching this bird fish.
