Pertinent Technical Details

All images were taken with a hand held Canon R with a 24-105mm F4L lens at approximately 35 mm. The location faces east to the North Sea and as expected the weather was overcast and temperature approximately 55 F, (13 C) with blustery wind. I did not hike up with a tripod, hence the hand held images.

I like the clouds and the resulting silvery look of the water, Ian. I also like the scene. I would think about removing those two brighter bare spots in the lower right as they tend to pull my eye away from exploring the rest of the image.

I like it Ian. The composition works well for me with the bay forming the central point of reference,. The village adds interest and the sea shows a range of tones/colours/shadows.
I think that the bright patch of sky above the bay is probably blown-out and the scene may benefit from it being toned down, (giving a more uniform dull/grey sky…just like it usually is in the UK!)

Really nice pano image !!! I love your composition and the 5 frames are flawless in connecting them. Maybe a little more contrast in the land but this still works great !!!

Hi Ian,
The pano format works very nicely for this scene. Kudos to you for doing this handheld; I would need my tripod. The drama laden clouds work very well as does the reflected light on the water. The balance between the highlights and shadows looks OK to me although I could see toning down that lighter cloud in the middle of the top edge. A couple of other small suggestions would be to clone out those two bare spots in the grass; toward the left edge; as well as those OOF leaves. All small thimgs and easy fixes for this lovely image. Nicely done!

Ian: Scotland is on my bucket list so this is a treat for me. For me the composition is OK but I would prefer the horizon line not be so centered. Giving the sky 50% of the frame real estate gives it too much emphasis IMO. If it was more dramatic this much might work. Tilting the camera down a few degrees to give you more FG would work better for me. I do think your light and shadow management is pretty good. Great to have you posting and hope to see more. >=))>
