Parting Shot

Image Description

The challenge for me this week is which of my fog shots from my many sojourns to the Oregon coast to choose. On my Fall 2023 trip my last day on the coast was at Harris Beach SP. I had spent the better part of the afternoon beachcombing as the light was awful for any kind of landscape work but really nice for beach details. I was just about to give up on any kind of sunset but made one last pass up the Samuel Boardman Scenic Byway section of Highway 101. And then this happened. The fog lifted, the clouds dispersed and the sun bathed the shore with this glorious light. There were a couple other places along the byway that may have been more interesting but the light was fleeting so I decided to take the bird in hand. >=))>

This is an HDR shot done in LR. I’m pretty pleased with the results but all suggestions are most welcome. >=))>

I love it when I’m pessimistic and nature scolds me for it! That was wonderful that the clouds broke up a bit for that late light. I also love that the close ocean is exposed, but the distant ocean is covered by the marine layer.

Tough to shoot towards the sun like this! I often don’t like HDR, but this one came out quite well.

Bill, this came out well. The land look good, the sun doesn’t overwhelm the entire view and I especially like how touches of fog can be seen across most of the frame. HDR did good here, was that straight from Adobe software or did you do special processing? Year ago I did some HDR by compositing multiple exposures. Today’s cameras have so much better dynamic range that I rarely find a situation that needs multiple exposures.
