Peering Into The Forest

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is an intimate grouping of autumn color I spotted along the walls of Blackwater Canyon in Blackwater Falls SP, WV. The day was rainy with intermittent fog; perfect conditions for capturing the beautiful colors of fall. Mike and I were at Pendelton Point constantly wiping the moisture from the front of our lenses; due to the light wind; in between images. The timing for the trip was perfect as the colors were a little past peak with some leaf drop which afforded us views into the surrounding forest and a lot of the tee structure.

Specific Feedback

How does the saturation look? I tried to keep it natural looking without going overboard. Anything else you notice please feel free to mention it.

Technical Details

Nikon Z 7, Nikon Z 100-400 @ 240 mm, f 11 @ 1/15 sec, ISO 200, Kase magnetic CPL, cable release & tripod.

This is a really wonderful image Ed! The intricacy and detail in the image keeps your eye moving around the image. The sharpness is perfect. I think the saturation is just right, the color tones of the leaves compliment tree trunks nicely. Your timing with some leaf fall worked to your advantage as the lines of the tree trunks help make the image and maybe wouldn’t have been as visible with all the leaves still on the tree. I don’t see anything I would change. Great work!

Ed, this is another great look at Eastern Forest fall colors. The colors look right and you’ve got a good mix of colors and trunks. I too wouldn’t change a thing. Overcast conditions can add so much to fall colors…

I’m really enjoying looking at this, Ed. The saturation looks perfect and the leaf drop adds a lot of visual interest and opens the scene up. Well done.
