Description

Pink Glasswing butterfly, Brazil
While trekking through the jungle, we saw a pinkish thing floating ethereally through the darkness. We followed it for a good while until it finally landed, and were amazed to find a butterfly with mostly-transparent wings.
There are many species of Glasswings, mostly in Central and South America. A few have found their way into Mexico and Texas.
They have the interesting habit of gathering in large leks where the males entice the ladies. What a sight THAT would be!

I like the lighting of this photo. Butterfly is nice and sharp and there’s enough light to show off those transparent wings. Well done…Jim

Sandy: Now you’re just showing off! What a beauty and the lighting and BG are superb. Marvelous capture and a wonderful presentation. >=))>

Wow, it is a beautiful butterfly, Sandy, and captured so well. Good lighting and wonderful details.

Gorgeous image, Sandy. the dark background and leaves emerging from nowhere, plus that outrageous butterfly give this a real fairy tale look.
