Point Lobos Pebble Pocket

Image(s)

Image Description

I never tire of shooting detail at Point Lobos, south of Carmel, CA. In this location, you not only get geologic layers and swirls but pockets of smooth pebbles as well, and everything changes with each storm or high tide. And when you tire of shooting detail, the place is loaded with accessible wildlife!

I’m often tempted to punch up the colors, but like to keep things real. I have done some metal prints of these compositions; some turned out more visually impactul than others. Perhaps I didn’t print them large enough?

James: What a wonderful find this is and a fine comp and capture IMO. As for print size, with an image like this the bigger the better. Top notch shot. >=))>

Many thanks Bill! Something about nature’s grinding mill that attracts my eye.
Sometimes we just have to go for it and print big. I have a 2X3 foot Grand Canyon shot in my family room. Glad I made it.
Where are you located? Been to Point Lobos?

James: I live in Houston but we have a son who lives in Torrance. Not sure how far that is from you but when we visit I’m always game for some adventure. >=))>

OK – lots of photo fun to be had in spring at Joshua Tree National Park and the adjacent Anza Borrego Desert State Park, both loaded with interesting flora, blooming at that time of year, as well as some super landscape targets. Both about 3 hours inland from Torrance.

James, you’re right, the mix of tilted layers, cracks and pocket of pebbles looks very good. The bluish-grey and somewhat orange colors in the stones adds a pleasing color contrast to the geological contrast. The colors both look “right” to me and look good.

Many thanks Mark. Good to have an objective evaluation of this composition. Next: large print!
