Pussywillows Galore

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

No Spring Blooms display is complete, IMHO, without including Pussy Willows, one of the earliest harbingers of warmer weather. Yesterday morning was pretty cold, in the upper 30s, but I was still surprised to see some bits of ice on the catkins, I snipped a couple of branches from my bush to shoot indoors with the idea of posting just one, but decided I needed to post more to truly represent the different stages I observed.

Technical Details

Fuji X-H2, Laowa macro lens, ISO 400, f/22, tripod with timer, various shutter speeds, 85W lighting. Post processing included adjustments to exposure and sharpening, and some minor cropping.

Very cool images, Jim. The third is my favorite with the fourth being a strong contender. I think if you’d done a two or three shot stack on the third to get that one forward facing catkin in focus along with all the others, it would kick it up yet another notch. The composition on the fourth is outstanding.

Jim, these all show off spring catkins well. I too like #3 the best, with it variety of catkin ages showing. #4 would make an excellent stack with it’s highly overlapped variety of colors and shapes. The darker background in #2 sets off the main catkina and the leaf both very well.

@Dennis_Plank and @Mark_Seaver, thank you for your encouraging and helpful words. Yes, stacking would have been very useful for #3 and especially #4, I just have to realize that earlier rather than later… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:.

Jim: Another vote for #3 with #2 being my runner-up. I like it when folks work a subject like this and get such disparate results. Well done. >=))>

Thanks very much @Bill_Fach, it was fun!

Oh yes, the third one is my pick too, Jim. I’m glad you shared more than one. They are all good.

Thank you @Shirley_Freeman for your kind words. I love when they come out because of all the different looks they present.
