I don’t often try for sun stars or have the luck to catch sun rays coming through clouds, but on this occasion I created one just because it was possible. This is back in 2020 when I did a kayak photo workshop in Louisiana & Texas. This is from our first sunrise paddle and I did a lot of work in this little area while the sun and the mist cooperated.

It is cropped slightly for better balance and oh my was that huge dynamic range hard to tame. Thoughts? Ideas for processing…no chance for a do-over in the field.
Lr for all processing including some wb & calibration tweaks to get colors more realistic, a crop and a few masks to further balance tonalities. Some distraction removal and some color grading. Texture, negative dehaze and clarity added and the crop.
Hi Kris,
I have to agree with everyone else that this is wonderful bayou scene you captured. I quite like the mood created with the rising sun piercing through mist and bathing the scene in this warm glow. I especially like the backlight on some of those hanging mosses. My only suggestion is to print it big and find a wall to hang it. Very nicely done.
Thanks @Mark_Seaver, @Todd_Higgins, @Diane_Miller, @Bill_Fach, @Ed_Lowe & @Dave_Douglass - I didn’t mean to make you all jealous. Ok, well maybe a little, it was a supreme moment for me in my photographic journey. To combine my love of kayaking with an actual photo workshop in bald cypress country was a dream come true. I wasn’t sure if I shared this one with you years ago, but reprocessed it for this week’s theme. Glad it hit the mark.
