Quiet Time

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The last bit of sunlight kisses some of the peaks in the White Mountains of NH. Sometimes the light is bold and brash as it lights up the mountains and surrounding clouds and other times it is subdued and quiet as it was this particular evening. This image was captured from the aptly named Sunset Hill; one of my go to places when visiting the area. Over the years; during spring and autumn trips to this location; I can not recall one time that that we did not come away with some images that we were quite happy with. I have always found the evening light to be quite beautiful as it lights up the mountains in front of us before disappearing down over the hill behind us.

Specific Feedback

How do the shadows look to everyone? I desaturated the greens a little bit. Did I go far enough? Anything else you notice please feel free to mention it.

Technical Details

Nikon Z 7, Nikon 24-200 @ 200 mm, f 11 @ 1/100 sec, ISO 200, Kase magnetic polarizer, cable release & tripod.

I think you nailed the shadows.

The shadows seem fine to me. I think the image does a nice job of capturing the quality of the light at this time of day in a very natural way.

It all looks fine to me, Ed. It has a very peaceful mood.

Lovely landscape, Ed. The shadows and color of the FG and mountains look very nice. I am wondering if you could tone down the sky and the large white cloud a bit. The brightness there grabs my eye.

That’s a minor nit, though. This is a fine image!

Many thanks everyone @Igor_Doncov, @WillR, @Don_Peters, @Preston_Birdwell and @Michael_Lowe for taking a moment and leaving your thoughts on this image; always appreciated. Here is a rework with Preston’s suggestion. I darkened the cloud and sky a little bit. While I was doing the rework I thought I would crop a little from the sky as well. Any better?
