Topaz AI and basic adjustments in LR. I used masking in LR to slightly reduce the lighting intensity in the background.

Another image with very nice light, Dan. I like the two poses and how they work together. I’m not sure what it would do to the birds but the lines on the background make me feel like it wants just a tiny bit of counter-clockwise rotation. I’m surprised at the apparent noise in the birds for iso 800. I’m wondering if Topaz AI did that?

Cool!! This might have been at the crane pools? (And I’ve heard they are drained now – or at least were recently.) Very nice catch, but a bit noisy, with a strange look on the front bird, with the BG smooth but noise on the far wing and the area just ahead of it. Can you describe your workflow? (I don’t think it had to come out this way.)

EDIT: The different choices in Topaz AI can have very different effects, and some will result in uneven NR. I usually find the newer algorithms in Low Light or Severe Noise to be the best for even results, and best when applied on the initial layer (or a copy) in PS before any local adjustments or cloning.

Great take-off poses; looks as if they’re racing. It might be interesting to see what the new NR feature in LR does. If this were mine, I’d probably remove the white spots against the background and a few in the water. As with the previous post, really nice light.

Nice running poses. Well caught Daniel and nice light. I’m also wondering about the noise and only at ISO 800. Guessing Topaz is the cause. Wondering what a different workflow would look like (and perhaps leave Topaz AI out altogether). I don’t have the Topaz software so can’t comment directly on those settings.

I am working on this image - using LR/DN and PS smart sharpening tool. I don’t see much difference. To me, this image is just not as sharp as it should be. I am not sure what you are referring to as noise, although I am still a novice at seeing subtleties. I will repost using a different workflow- leaving Topaz out.

Thanks for your input. I think the raw image was not sharp enough and I over sharpened it in Topaz, creating noise that was really not there originally. Does that make sense?

Yes that could be the case. You could post the raw image in the post processing forum if you want others to have a look.

Great morning light angle, great action poses. Mighty fine capture, I think. Well done.

Thankyou. I am trying to learn the processing part of this hobby - not very good at it. Enjoy being in the field and taking the photos.

The birds are both much noisier than the BG. Here are two of the more obvious areas where the noise slopped over to the BG. Denoising is quite advanced now, but it is very rare that an image can be sharpened successfully.
