Rainbows on a stick

Image(s)

Image Description

Rainbow lorikeets are constant visitors to my garden, and I must admit they are so common I fail to take much notice of them. These lorikeets, like most parrots, are clowns, but I’m sure their antics aren’t meant to be funny most of the time.

The birds have very kindly obliged by perching on a small branch propped up near a bird waterer.

I loved these guys when we were in Australia! Lots of them in zoos and aviaries, but we’d never seen them in the wild. I’m very envious you have them in your garden!!
Wonderful varied poses here on the stick.
They seem just a little washed out from here, though - maybe more saturation?
Sweet image!

Glennie: Oh this is marvelous! The colors of the birds are spectacular and the BG is perfect. I like that everyone seems to be looking left except that second guy who seems to be keeping an eye on you. Delightful shot. >=))>

@Sandy_Richards-Brown . Thank you . The rainbow lorikeets get so misrepresented with their colouring that I am always very conscience of adhering to reality. In differing light of course, they will look vastly different; sometimes brighter (more saturated) or washed out, particularly in the blues and reds.

I might try a touch of vibrance and contrast to see if the image is still believable to me.

@Bill_Fach Thankyou! You mentioned the eye contact. Do you think that’s an issue with the lack of eye contact?

I don’t think the 3 without eye contact is a problem. On the contrary, the one looking at you seems to be saying: Hey- I’ve got a very smart T-shirt too!. Maybe clone out the broken-off bit of stick at the bottom?

On the contrary, I think that having just that one bird checking you out makes this more like a community effort; one guy is the lookout while the others check out something else. Dinner perhaps?

Maybe it was the brighter light here, then. The shots I got were mostly in trees and shade, so the colours seem brighter.
Still an excellent image, as is!

This is wonderful!! The one looking at you is the center of attention and it is very interesting that the other three are occupied in unison at something we can’t see. Very cool! The angle of the perch is unusual and very nice and the framing is just right. The soft tonalities and level of detail in the BG is perfect! I like the twig on the perch – it gives it some authenticity. No suggestions except enjoy!!

This is a very pleasing to the eye photo. Love the subject matter, and the hook they’ve created causing me to go up the stick to have the top one cause my eye to travel back down to the twig to the bottom bird then back up again . Nice ride! I too have to urge to see a little more saturated look but I get it that you like a capture to be “authentic” to what you saw.

Great colors and I like how each one is looking somewhere different.
