Raising Hibiscus

Green Eyed

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve been watching this Hibiscus grow and really liked the buds shape, color, texture and movement. Then yesterday it bloomed. The flower is about 8 inches across. I was using my 100 MACRO so i couldn’t get a good full picture. I was taking different shots from different angels. Then I saw the eyes and nose and had to take more shots. I wanted to show the stamen clearly and get the eyes with some blur too. I went back out this morning but it had rained last night and claimed the flower. They don’t live long but they sure are pretty while they last.

Specific Feedback

All help and suggestions welcome. I have more buds that will bloom. Did I crop too much?

Technical Details

Canon 5DSR, 100 MACRO , hand held… 400 ISO

John: Not sure what happened here but the colors look way over-saturated and the whites on the anthers and tips of the stigma are completely blown. Tone these down and I think you have a worthy subject and a fairly good comp. >=))>

Your right Bill, I tried to make something out of a simple pic. I did too much playing around in PS and blew it out.

Those eyes in the second image are so cool Skip. Way to see them! I also like the unopened buds and the tentacles of the first one.
