A cool bird to be sure. Looks like some very tough lighting conditions to shoot in. There are a couple of things I would suggest. One is the bring more light to the bird, and less to the background. Here’s an example just using masks in LightRoom. The other is the crop. I wish for more room on the left, and less on the right. I didn’t try to do anything about that.

Yes, I like that composition better as it gives the bird a little breathing room in the direction it is facing.

Hi Pieter. Your repost is much better. The only thing I’d suggest is bringing up the saturation on the bird a bit as you seem to have faded it out a bit in the process of adding more light. A fine image.
