The background works fine for me, Richard. I love the nice low angle-were you lying on the beach? Is this a significant crop? The reason I ask is that I’m not seeing the really fine feather detail that I would expect from a bird this large in the frame and at the shooting parameters you’ve listed. It’s still a fine image as long as you’re not pixel peeping.

I like the head turn and the double catchlight from the water reflection. The reflection in the wet sand is also very nice.

Hi Richard, nice catch of this intriguing bird. BG looks fine to me. Well composed image with the bird at the foam line and nice reflection. Nice color rendition - looks really natural. Agree with Dennis on the feather detail. Bird looks a little soft. Still a fine image.

Great catch of this bright fellow! Lovely pose, perfect colors, sweet waves and that left bubble and the bit of reflecction adds interest. Perfect positioning in the frame. Maybe I’M off-kilter, but does this need a touch of clockwise rotation to level that front foam?

@Dennis_Plank Thanks for your comments. I was crouched on one knee and yes I did significantly crop this photo. I really need to get a teleconverter for more reach

@Allen_Sparks @SandyR-B Thanks for your comments. In retrospect I do see the need for slight CW rotation
