Red-tail Takeoff

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I got this red-tail taking off from a tree.

Specific Feedback

I like the look of it in B&W so I kept it that way. I thought to leave the remnants of the tree it was flying out of for reference. Yeah? Cropping?

Technical Details

Z9, 180-600 lens, 1/3200th, f 9.0, hand held, 670mm, ISO 720, cropped to 3107 x 2217.

This does look very nice in B&W, Dave. Good detail in the hawk and a very nice take-off pose. I don’t mind most of the branches as they do give the feel of leaving the tree, but the furthest left branch doesn’t seem to add anything and tends to pull my eye (it’s also very easily removed).

Agree with Dennis about that branch (plus the little piece in the LRC). It looks good in Band W, and I especially like how the claws are caught.

Dave, this is great in B&W. Nice detail, pose, and clean BG.I don’t mind the branches at all, but that little horizontal one in the LR could go.
Fine image!

Dave,

B&W is perfect for this as it really brings out the contrast in the plumage pattern. The sharpness of the photo is great, especially in the hawk’s eye, gives the hawk a sense of intention as if it is flying to really get something. The pose is perfect. Oh, and I like the branches. Gives the photo context.

Hi Dave, nice use of black and white. Dynamic flight pose - well caught. The branches are fine with me. Agree the one in lower right could go though. Well done.
