Questions to guide your feedback

Is it too red? The camera actually exposed this pretty well and the color is what I remember (as best I can)…this was on an overcast day…

Yes, it sure is red!
The colour looks great from here, and the detail and less defined petals work well together.
I’m mixed about the comp - the lower petals that are cut off seem …well… cut off.
A little more room at the bottom to complete those petals might be an improvement, with maybe a little more at the top to preserve your frame placement.
Really nice!

I like your depth of field in this one, David, and the way the petals kind of blend as you go into the image. The color is wonderful. I see what Sandy means about the trio of lower petals, but I’m not at all sure where you could cut them to create something better.

Intense!! And very nicely so! You have captured the reds beautifully – they are so easy to blow out to featureless. I love the general composition and vignette idea but I also think I’d like to have those 3 petals more fully represented, or else go very low contrast with them to match the other edges.

I don’t remember what your previous camera was, but if a 45 MP full-frame sensor is a new toy (er – tool…), you’ll find you can compose more loosely and crop like crazy.

@SandyR-B, @Dennis_Plank, and @Diane_Miller. Thanks for the nice comments. I understand those lower petals might not be the best comp choice for everyone. It was a compositional choice on my part. I’ll post the whole image below. The bottom petals were still cropped out, but I did not like the lower left corner…

Diane, my other camera was a Fujifilm…crop camera but still 45MP. This one is 45MP and full frame…much better.

I like having a bit more of the petals. I’d just cone out the dark area in the corner. The tiny green one in the UR corner could be cropped or cloned.

I love full frame sensors. I carry bricks around the house so I can keep up the strength to pick the thing up. :upside_down_face:

Intense is right! Woah. Off the charts. The LLC doesn’t bother me much as the whole flows well - the patterns of petals in this flower are so interesting and so photogenic. Nice job.

Hi David, the edit is better, imo. It would be very easy to clone out that irritating left lower corner, if you were so inclined.
Really nice work!

Repost is much better than the first. With dahlias, its all about what to include. The center of the flower is very important in this comp and provides some 3D features to the image. The color is wonderful and this one has a very nice red color. Some reds in dahlias are muddy and don’t look as good as this one does. I’ll go with second over the first as presented…Jim

@Diane_Miller, @Kris_Smith, @SandyR-B, and @Jim_Zablotny thank you for the comments and suggestions. I really appreciate them.

I posted a rework up above where I got rid of the UR corner and did a little cloning to the LLC.

Thanks again for your help.

Perfect!! I would never be able to decide on a composition with a flower like this.
