Reflection in a stream

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I saw this while hiking along a stream and felt drawn to it. There wasn’t much color in the reflection and what there was didn’t matter so I converted it to black and white.

Technical Details

ISO 100, 94 mm, f/32. 1.6 sec.

I shot at f/32 just to slow the exposure down.

This is really nice, Don. That stream must really be placid to get this kind of fine detail in a 1.6 second exposure. I love the monochrome treatment. If my eyes aren’t deceiving me, it looks like you chose one with a slight tint of pink/purple? In any case, I love the effect and the muted tonality range of the image. Well done.

Thanks for commenting, Dennis. I’m not seeing any color tint but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

I usually like a lot of contrast when working in black and white. I was surprised when I found myself preferring less contrast in this one.

Lovely, Don. I get a topsy-turvy feeling. The layers of branches make a wonderful texture.

I’m not seeing any color cast on my monitor.
