I was “playing” with the reflections of the aspen trunks in the Big Thompson River in RMNP. The clear, shallow water let the growth on the bottom show very nicely. By setting the polarizer to maximize the reflections, I was able to get this view, which fits my definition of confusion as it’s hard to tell what’s going on. I’m posting this full frame view and two crops, to see what folks think about the crops as well as suggestions about ways to make this more attractive/interesting.

This is a bit of a mind bender and a fascinating image. The 4x5 works best for me. The square is too tight and I find my eye drifting off the right frame in the OP. BTW, in the future, you might post all three in the original post to allow arrowing back and forth from one to another?
It’s a rare occurrence, but I must say that this one isn’t working for me. I get what you were trying to capture and present, but I must not be seeing or getting it. To me, beneath the surface isn’t all that appealing and there’s just barely not enough of the reflection of trunks to make it work.
Lon, thanks for your honesty. I actually agree about the challenge of viewing this “scene”. When I noticed this, I was struck by the viewing challenge of seeing both the strong white reflections and the lovely golds and greens at the bottom. Trying to see if I could handle this unconventional challenge both in capture and in processing was what got me to press the shutter. I posted this because I’m not sure about what I was trying to do or if I was successful and hopeful that hearing other’s thought would help me clarify my own. (I suppose knowing what I wanted up front would make success much more likely… )
