Robin Takeoff

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I got this moment of an American robin taking off. Unfortunately, it was flying thru a large shadow but I thought the “spread eagle” pose made it worth keeping.

Specific Feedback

Does the cropping work?

Technical Details

The crop works well and the bird is nice and sharp, Dave. Your shutter speed did a great job of stopping the wings. I don’t have any problem with the shadows, but you need to train it to give you a slightly better head turn. Were you using that pre-capture feature to get this?

No, this was taken before I knew I had that pre-capture ability. I just got lucky.

Really nice take off pose Dave. I like the full spread on the tail and wings.

I always get too excited when a bird takes flight so I compliment the focus in this image, not a feather out of place:) I have no improvements to suggest. Striking composition, colour, and subject lighting.
