What a cool perch! I like the white BG - sets of the hummer and green perch perfectly. Hummer looks fine from here - not TACK sharp, but perfectly fine.
Excellent image!
I love the colors and textures of the perch. What is it? Light background totally works with the colors! I like the perch so much I wasn’t too worried about the sharpness of the hummingbird. Nice photo!
I agree 100% with your assessment, Allen. You didn’t by chance take another frame with the hummer sharp and the tuft of needles out of focus that you could use to create a composite?
Thanks, @SandyR-B , @christinedorresteinphotography , and @Dennis_Plank for your comments. Christine, I think this might be a noble fir, but not really sure. Dennis, I don’t think I have a sharper image of the hummer-it was pretty far away and this is a good size crop.
Allen, this looks like an illustration with the white background. The orange hummer and green needled perch are a fine combination. Yes, the having the hummer sharp would be good, but I don’t think you have the dof to get both the perch and the hummer sharp, any chance of a 2-4 shot stack as the solution?
OK, this may be the coolest perch I’ve ever seen. How unusual is this? And then to capture that Rufous on it in a great pose is awesome. The slightly OOF hummer is not ideal but that killer perch is almost enough to overlook that little nit. Is this perch near your home? If so, maybe try and get a second shot on this one if the hummer uses it frequently. Very cool image, Allen!
Thanks, David. The tree was on the Oregon Coast, but I know where it is and maybe next time I’m out that way I’ll see if there is a cooperative hummer. I posted this for the perch more than the bird.
I like the color contrast between the bird and the perch, and the white empty background. I think the image is very interesting and looks like a classic nature illustration (a la Audobon, so to say). Pity for the focus, but so what - and the detail in the needles is splendid.
