The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I mostly have anna’s hummingbirds here but sometimes a rufous shows up, and when one does, I always hope that it’s a male. They have a look. I’ve been able to grab some captures of this guy recently. BTW, it was real late on a cloudy, dark day, hence the low shutter speed. I usually try for a much higher SS to freeze the wings more. Turned out I liked the “movement” of the wing blur on this one.

Specific Feedback

Anything. Is the BG too boring? The transparent quality of his wing movement causes me to not try any BG manipulating.

I’ve never seen this species. This is wonderful - there is nothing I would change. The sharpness of the head and neck are spot on. The green of the background is not boring and goes nicely with the rusty autumn-ish colors of the bird. Love it.

I love this image. I am about to see a film about hummingbirds this image has whetted my appetite.

Nicely captured! The head is nicely in focus but maybe just a bit over- sharpened? I like the blurred wings. (It’s not easy to get them in a pleasing location – you succeeded here.) The lower body is sharp enough. It looks like these is some extra blur on the feet – I’ve noticed that those little feet seem to vibrate very fast. Nice BG with enough detail to add a hint of environment.

Nice catch, Dave. I think the blur is fine as it shows the motion. Smooth background really helps too. Well done.

The blur is fine with me, Dave. As long as I can see them I’m good with it. Nice detail in the bird and you caught the light nicely on the gorget. I could see a bit more room all around.

This image really conveys the sense of wing motion. Good facial detail and colors in the gorget. I think the background is fine and complementary. Well done.

Sweet image!
The blur is fine with me - adds interest - since the head and eye are sharp.
Nice pose, BG, and a little more room all around would improve this nice image even further. Well-done!

Nice catch Dave and I like the wing blur. Critical focus is where it should be on the head/eye. Love seeing the gorget like this.

I have absolutely no problem with the background. As you say, it makes the wing motion clearly visible. However, I don’t see the eye as very sharp, it looks a touch out of focus to me. Or is this me needing new glasses? Anyway, absolutely gorgeous bird and capture!
