Salty Landing

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

On the way to Victorville, CA I stopped at Salton Sea Rec Area. There were still a few birds left as the season comes to a close here. I spotted this Western Sandpiper at a distance and followed it. The bird made a couple of hops and coming into a landing. I was sitting on the salt but close to the sea so my shorts got a little wet as I sunk a little.

Specific Feedback

I cropped quit a bit and thought the best place to put the sandpiper was in the upper left area. The image had a lot of area but it was mostly the same as the area in the photo. I am trying to get better at focusing on the subject. Thoughts?

Technical Details

Canon R5 ii with RF 200-800 and RF 1.4 Ext, 1120mm 1/2500 f/13 (wide open) ISO 1250 (auto) HH.

Hi Dean, looks like the R5 II focusing did well for this shot. Bird looks sharp. Exposure looks good to me also. I like the subject placement in the frame as the bird comes in for a landing. We also get a nice sense of the environment with this image. Well done.

Gorgeous detail in the Sandpiper, Dean and you have plenty of environment to convey that aspect of the image. Excellent work.

Thanks for the comments, @Allen_Sparks and @Dennis_Plank

Nicely composed, Dean. Excellent color and detail in the sandpiper and a good sense of the environment.
