The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I am attempting to archive the various dahlias that are growing out in the vegetable garden. I decided to go high key with this one as it is more challenging to get a very uniform light BG. I also decided to go with more flashes to bring out the subtle coloration of the petal bases and shadows. This is a practice image which will provide a baseline for improvement. Also this flower is showing its age so I will make anothe attempt with a fresher flower.
Specific Feedback
How do you like the comp with a high key BG?

Jim: This looks pretty darn good to me. I especially like the inclusion of the bud and think that elevates this to more than a classic portrait. A more perfect flower might be ideal but you may not get a bud along with it. Your lighting mastery shows up here for sure. Finely crafted image.>=))>
A very nice high key image of this flower, Jim. I think you might want to tweak your lighting a bit as you have this so evenly lit that you’re starting to lose the 3-d feel that really makes your Dahlia images special.
Hi Jim,
I am certainly no expert when it comes to lighting setups, but this looks pretty darn good to me. The high key look works beautifully and compliments the pinks and greens of the dahlia perfectly. The emerging bud is also a nice touch here. Sounds as though you put a lot of work producing this end result, so I am sure the fresher flower will be stunning.
That’s a great way to keep those dahlias around a little longer!
I think high key works, but maybe just a slight bit less. At this brightness it tends to overwhelm the petal margins, to my eye, on that left side. If I take it into Photoshop and drop the luminance just a little, I prefer that.
Also, there is pink smudge left of the flower, and a green one below that leaf on the left. I’m not sure what those are from, but could be removed if desired.
