Scarface Scores a Salmon

This is a repost from a previous challenge with a similar theme (829). It’s the best example I have for the subject matter so I thought it was worth reposting. A severely scarred Stellar Sea Lion feeding on salmon at Valdez, Alaska. It looks like he got torn up in a fight with another Sea Lion. He’s obviously easy to recognize and I’ve seen him two years after this photo was taken so he’s managed to survive the event.

Gary, I remember this shot well. Yes, nature can be quite resilient. The raw red in this Sea Lion’s face is very striking against the beautiful blue water. The splashes are a fine extra.

I too, remember this image, Gary. I really like the angle you got and the detail.

Gary: If you’ve spotted this guy a couple years later it’s a testimony to his resistance and resilience. Great capture of the moment. >=))>
