Semipalmated Plover

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Although not as brightly colored as a spring plumaged plover, I just like their cuteness. The lighting was very soft and the fill flash added just a bit of crispness to the feathers.

Specific Feedback

I was able to position myself fairly low for this shot. How do you like the comp with the OOF foreground?

Technical Details

Z9 600mm f4 (1/4000sec at 5.0, ISO 1600 fill at -1.3ev) Levels, DeNoise, Crop for Comp, Rubber stamp tool to remove dark OOF rocks, dodged around eye…

Excellent, Jim. The thin slice of in focus area makes for a very nice composition and there’s not enough variation in the foreground to create distractions. This reminds me of the work of @Hans_Overduin, which I’ve always liked.

Thank you @Dennis_Plank Its an honor to have a photo compared to @Hans_Overduin 's work. His use of diffuse lighting brings out the best in his bird photos. I hope that he starts posting again. I do like this photo a lot and am glad that the plover was content and stuck around for the shot…Jim

Nice sharpness on the bird with a great low point of view. I like this composition but am wondering of another version with some cropped from the bottom (1/3 of the original is oof blob). Just a thought. Well done capture.
