In late summer/early fall, my woodland pond gets visited by Shadow Darners. The males are known for hovering near the water’s edge looking for females. This is a visitor from last Sept. who spent maybe a half hour checking things out before he moved on.

Catching a Dragonfly in flight is always challenging so this one with all of it’s hovering was a treat.

The small image of the face page hasn’t shown the beauty of this dragonfly. Managing to catch him in flight is quite incredible. The background is as gorgeous as the dragonfly.
Wonderful image; well seen, captured and processed.
Mark, I also find in flight shots of dragonflies challenging. I think if I can get to where there is a pond that would help, as I would find them hovering more. You did a great job getting this shot. I love the BG.
Mark, a great hovering shot. The only minor actions to perfect it imho would be removing the green in the TRC and making the beige section above its right wing blend in more with the rest of the BG. I love the coloring of this dragonfly.
Mark: A dragonfly flight shot is still on my bucket list so I’m insanely jealous . For me the BG makes the shot and I wouldn’t change that a bit. I think it transforms this from a conventional flight shot where the dragonfly is sharp and more precisely rendered to a much more artistic image. Most excellent in every way. >=))>
