Description

This is Freedom Park here in Charlotte NC … I’ve loved this park since I was a child. I have photographed it many times and decided to go and see if I could capture that cold winter look. Come spring everything will bloom and it looks totally different… The great part is the people who walk this park everyday. People from all over the world everyone different come to enjoy this park. Everyone with smiles and kind hearts. I’ve played music there and enjoyed this beautiful place in our city. But It is winter so I decided to take a few images and post one. Peace to the Planet

Specific Feedback

I hope to show the cold and winter look. It will soon transfer to that spring look…

Mission accomplished Gill. The black and white, and the choice to not include people, emphasizes the “slow” season, and of course the bare trees slide right into that theme. I love that empty park bench; it would be a less emotive image without that.

Thanks for showing interest. I’m ready for Spring. :+1::+1:

Hi Gill,
That empty park bench sets the mood and makes this image for me. I also think the B&W conversion works beautifully and amplifies the mood of the quiet winter time season. This looks like a lovely place to visit and just wander the grounds. This image gives us a glimpse of why you love it so much. Very nicely done.

I agree with what others have said about the bench being a visual feast for the eyes. And better yet, and empty bench. The lines of the pond provide some visual interest as well. I’d like to see a little more canvas at the bottom if you have it but not much. I think your concept of showing winter works here although I don’t get that really, really cold feeling from it like I would if there were lots of snow on the ground. You have that flat gray sky which certainly helps with that feeling of a cold day and the fact that the park is empty adds to that feeling. Would love to see this in the spring.

This image reminds me of a classic sort of image I’d expect to see in a 50’s magazine like Time. I mean that as a compliment. It’s simple, expertly composed, and your processing is perfect. I’ve got nothing but love for this one.
