Shinleaf

Once I spotted these in the undergrowth, more and more popped. Because of their location (in scrubby bushes) and because of the way the flowers point downward, it was really difficult to shoot these. Plus the breeze. So I went the non-traditional route. I have often used large trees or boulders to isolate flowers and sometimes ferns. Getting the camera low and close worked for that and to show a bit of the environment. I wish the light had been better, but what can you do?

Specific Feedback Requested

Too much or not enough foreground? Background too distracting on either side of the tree?

Technical Details

Is this a composite: No
Tripod and probably a polarizer, but I can’t remember

Lightroom for everything including some linear gradients to further darken the background. A little brush work on the flowers to bring them up. Texture and clarity. Sharpening. A little crop to 4:5 ratio. White balance adjustment.

I like the framing within the tree trunk and that you have included the background for context too. Nicely done, Kris.

Thanks @David_Bostock - woodland wildflowers always make me stretch.
