Description

This panhandler was working the parking lot at Yosemite NP a few years back. I was in my car and it was too close for me to get out and still take its picture. I couldn’t believe how iridescent the feathers were.

Specific Feedback

Angle? Brightness? Partial shade partial bright sunlight. Any comments are welcome.

Technical Details

Canon 40D, f3.2,1/400 s, iso 800, -0.3 ev, 100 mm (70-300 lens)

Hi Ed, I like the head turn and sheen on the feathers. That’s one serious bill. A lower shooting angle would have been nice but you were stuck in the car as you mentioned.

Nice grab shot of this guy, Ed. My personal preference is to subdue the exposure on black birds to make the shadows at least look rich black, but I know I’m in a minority with that and it looks like you had pretty harsh light to deal with here as the underside is pretty close to black.

Hi Ed
Tuff angle, but nice black feather detail. I am still working on getting a good looking black bird.
Peter

Good feather detail in the iridescent areas.

Thank you @Allen_Sparks, @Dennis_Plank, @Peter_Morrissey and @Allen_Brooks. I should have dialed up a plus Exposure Value on this one.
